Aristotle has stated the meaning of holism as follows: "The whole is more than the sum of its parts." Over the years, supporters of holistic approach have emerged in science, philosophy, medicine, sociology, economy, and psychology. The holistic approach finds that a person is capable of healing himself or herself – i.e., returning to the normal state of balance under own control. ’Balance’ means that the body, mind and soul co-exist in harmony; it means living in harmony with the environment. Having found harmony, people use their potential in a creative manner, are satisfied with themselves and their activities.
One of the principles of holistic medicine is that the co-functioning of different “parts” of human existence must be taken into account. Holistic medicine concentrates on the human instead of the disease.
